ABOUT ME

Laura Vail
I am currently an Assistant Principal at an elementary school in Galveston Texas. I have a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership and a Masters Degree in School Counseling. I have a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural education from Western Illinois University. I have not only been teaching for 18 years but I have taught Kindergarten, first grade, second grade and High School Agriculture.
My Elementary school serves Pre-Kindergarten age 4 through 4th grade. There are approximately 700 students enrolled on this campus. Most of our population are at-risk and there is a high percentage of English Language Learners and approximately 70% receive free or reduced meals. Among the students 68% are economically disadvantaged, 10% are African American, 57% are Hispanic, 28% are Caucasian and 5% are another ethnicity’s. There are approximately 47% female students and 53% male students.
It is my conviction that as an educator I am ever evolving within my own education. I have been an educator for 18 years and have had the privilege to teach at the elementary level and at the High School level. I have been able to work with students and faculty at both levels and have been successful at both levels. Having been able to teach at different levels has made me aware of my love for learning and the process in which educators and students learn and grow in their education. Education is not my profession; it is my lifestyle.
